Never Too Young To Be A Blessing

Never Too Young To Be A Blessing

This is the first of a series of posts promoting the idea that we are never too young to be living out our faith passionately and distinctively. There is so much to explore here and the challenges are big! The aim of the series is to encourage girls of all ages to start living in a way that reflects Christ, no matter what stage of life we are at.

God desires for our hearts to be pursuing Him above all else, to be developing hearts that are quick to love, slow to anger and ready to bless. To be people who are full of integrity in our speech and our conduct, shining out as daughters of Christ. At every stage of our lives we can be setting examples in this way, regardless of our age or abilities.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. (Proverbs 22:6)

Over the series we will also be exploring how to cultivate good habits starting from today. It is easy to 'postpone' a more radical form of Christianity for a time in the future when we feel we may be less busy / more confident / settled in a job / ‘grown up’ / less scared / starting a new term…the list goes on! However, this kind of attitude shows that we are letting our own plans direct our lives rather than welcoming God at the centre. If we start pursuing an active and transformative Christian life now, think how much more God will use us to glorify Him than if we wait for our own plans to come to fruition first.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

God desires to enrich all areas of our life, enabling us to shine for Him in all that we do. If we leave our Christian faith just for Sundays or when we are around other Christians, then we are not reflecting God's light and love to the people around us that need to see it.

Don't stifle your potential!

God gives us gifts and talents to use for His glory, bringing blessings to others in ways that we can't imagine. It is tempting and easy to use our gifts for our own gain, but so much more of a blessing to surrender these back to God and allow Him to guide us. In future posts of this series we'll be exploring how to start using these gifts to build God's kingdom. Let's start shining.

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. (Proverbs 11:25)

We are never too young to start being a blessing! Proverbs 11:25 shows us that if we strive to be a blessing to others, we will in turn reap the benefits for our own hearts. When was the last time you met someone that refreshed you and energised you? Someone that encouraged you and inspired you? How wonderful to be a 'refreshing' person, full of God's peace and light. We need people to be blessings in our society, across our schools and universities, in our homes and workplaces, in broken families and difficult friendships. Why wait?

Throughout this series of posts, we hope that you may be encouraged and inspired to start pursuing God in all that you say and do. No matter what age you are, you can start being a blessing to the people around you, stepping up to be part of a new and godly generation that rejects a selfish culture and pursues a selfless life, just like Jesus. We are never too young to be living for Christ in radical and distinctive ways.

"Turn us around, set us apart"

Be a blessing!
