1. TELL US WHAT YOU ARE UP TO AT THE MOMENT? WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY/WEEK LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?

Officially a graduate of Durham University, and currently based in London! If you’d asked me what my day looked like in May, I probably would’ve said something along the lines of ‘eat, sleep, work, repeat’ (sadly), but with the end of exams and graduation, I now have so much free time. So I’m either running, reading, cooking, researching ways to safely travel by foot from the East to the West Coast of America, or catching up with friends. All in all, loving being back at home, and will be doing some work placements for the next few weeks before preparing for the year ahead.

2. WHAT’S THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR WEEK? WHICH PARTS OF YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE DO YOU LOVE MOST?

In the interim between graduating and beginning next year’s adventure, my weeks don’t look the same each time, so the highlights vary! But in everyday life, I love cooking for people; I also love down time with my gorgeous family, and friends.

3. WHY ARE YOU DOING LIFE IN THE WAY YOU ARE?

‘Doing life’ well, I think, is all about knowing your why. For me, my why is because I am living for Jesus, and this looks different in each season. During university, 'doing life’ was finding the balance between investing my time and skills into something that would serve Him, as well as investing in life-giving relationships. Now, ‘doing life’ is reflecting on His goodness in the years past, and preparing for an incredible season ahead (I am moving to California for a year). In a few years, ‘doing life’ will hopefully look like bringing all the skills I have acquired over the years into something that will bear fruit for His kingdom - but in all these seasons, past, present, and future, the one concurrent feature of ‘doing life’ is that it has been underpinned by a desire to live and serve Him fully. Whether that’s studying, resting, working, travelling, old relationships, new relationships, seasons of waiting - all parts of life - has to have that drive and purpose.

4. WHAT IS THE ONE BIG THING THAT YOU THINK GOD IS TEACHING YOU AT THE MOMENT? HOW IS HE CHALLENGING AND ENCOURAGING YOU?

My close friend and I had a really eye-opening conversation a couple of weeks ago about honour; it felt as though we had both been convicted of it recently and wanted to encourage each other. It’s a pretty common topic but one that I find is easy to dismiss, or underestimate. The Lord has been teaching me about honouring others in my thoughts and outloud in conversation. I’ve been learning that living honourably, and honouring others is more often than not, a reflection of my heart. I’m learning that where I dishonour others, I have to look at the position of my heart and where I have doubted both God’s love for them, and for me.  When I honour others, it teaches me the value of living in unity with others as well as maintaining a pure heart. I’ve been re-learning and cementing that nothing good comes out of dishonouring others.  We looked at 2 Chronicles 16:9, ‘For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the Earth, in order to strengthen those who’s hearts are fully committed to him,’ - it’s so encouraging to know that having a fully-committed, fully sold out heart to the Lord, and therefore one that honours is, is one so pleasing to Him.

5. WHEN LIFE IS BUSY, HOW DO YOU MAKE TIME AND SPACE TO FOCUS ON GOD? HOW DO YOU TRY TO KEEP HIM AT THE CENTRE?

Ah busyness! I have tried, and definitely failed, to avoid being busy, as I am fairly well known for this. I’m still learning how to prioritise on this one, and how to slow down. The most helpful way to prioritize time with God for me, is remembering two key things: Firstly, there is nothing more important in life than being fed by God’s word every day, and never letting yourself get so busy that there isn’t time to be fed (just as you wouldn’t miss breakfast!). Secondly, with that, avoiding religious mindsets about spending time with God, and this has been so key. I encourage finding routines for your quiet time, but it’s got to be because you want to know Jesus more and walk with Him, rather than an obligation.

6. LOOKING BACK AT THE LAST YEAR, WHAT ENCOURAGES YOU ABOUT HOW GOD’S BEEN AT WORK IN YOUR LIFE?

Prayer. What encourages me most in the last year is that prayer is never wasted; whether unanswered, or answered. Also, trust in His timing. Particularly when praying! A cliche that you and I have probably heard many times, but it’s really true. I look back with so much thanks and gratitude that at certain times, things didn’t turn out they way I thought they would.
