Love Came Down: Faithfully Following The Star

Love Came Down: Faithfully Following The Star

My prayer for us all at MP is that in the coming weeks, months, and years, we are continually guided by the Holy Spirit to the truths of Jesus just as the Kings were guided by the star. Enjoy this beautiful post from Florrie! N x

If we were to play a game of word association beginning with ‘Christmas’, what would subsequently follow? Food, family or even Downton Abbey (this year is going to be really tough)?

However, amongst all the festivities it’s sometimes hard to remember the truths of the Christmas story and the defining characters, so to speak, who exhibited faith, trust, and joy at the birth of our Prince of Peace.

We know all too well that every now and again, or perhaps more often than not for some of us, we feel like life really isn’t our friend. Whether it’s work/uni/college/school stress, friends and family strains or just not feeling it, things can lead us to feel distant or to not focus on our father and his monumental gift for us.

Over the past year I have found myself particularly challenged when surrounded by preparation for my exams in the Summer. It wasn’t so much that I was actively defying God, but more so that I was becoming increasingly oblivious to his presence without realising it and was consistently focusing and dedicating all my energy to my work and being anxious about it. It was at this stage that I recognised that this distance was neither honouring, nor loving to the one who loves us like no other, and that being guided back towards the most important thing in my life was imperative.

Matthew 2:10 reads of the Kings when they saw the star, they were overjoyed’. Upon reading this I was struck how the shouts of acclamation in the Kings when they recognised that they could now find the Son of God was reminiscent of how we can rejoice when we know that God is near, every single day.

FOR THE KINGS, THE STAR LED THEM TO JESUS AND THEY FOLLOWED IT REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER TOILS AND HARDSHIPS THEY MAY HAVE MET IN ORDER TO FIND HIM AND ‘BOW DOWN AND WORSHIP HIM’.

We don’t have to look far in the Christmas story (and of course, the rest of the Bible) to see how much God wants us to know his Son. The kings were guided and went to seek Jesus on that first Christmas Day, just like we can be shown him every day with the knowledge that he will never forsake us. Whatever combats us in the year to come as it has in the months past, the star that is the Holy Spirit will continue to point us to Jesus as it has since his birth.

Florrie

Florrie lives in London where she is in 6th form studying too many essay subjects and drowning in reading but nevertheless loving it. She co-leads the school CU where she is excited to see the Lord working every week as well as always boogieing, eating copious quantities of sweetcorn and being a professional PA to her dog.
