Love Came Down: Sovereign Over Us

Love Came Down: Sovereign Over Us

Day 1: We couldn't be more excited to kick off our Christmas series, Love Came Down! Praying these daily testimonies would bless you and create some space for reflection as the chaos and fun ramp up...

Christmas definitely started early for me this year; partly because I discovered the John Lewis Christmas floor (FLOOR!) in November – but also because I’ve had exciting little ‘Love Came Down’ posts arriving in my inbox almost daily.

The posts for this series are written by girls and women from all circumstances and situations, reflecting on God’s sovereignty in the year gone past and sharing the hope they have. Reading through them, I’ve been blown away by the reality that God is lovingly and deeply involved in the lives of every single one of His daughters – and I’ve been reminded that the love that came down that first Christmas is still our lifeline today.

I’ve also wondered again at Jesus and at all the aspects of his character that we can experience for ourselves:

His names will be: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

It’s clear that 2016 has been a year of crossroads for lots of us; with questions hanging over school or university choices, friendships, careers, next steps and futures. As ever, the blessings have been mixed in with the battles: we’ve all experienced the strain of broken relationships, struggles, illnesses or anxieties.

And yet, in every post of this series, I can see that God is at work in every single situation. I can see Jesus as our Prince of Peace, bringing comfort. I can see our Wonderful Counsellor, bringing hope; and our Everlasting Father, keeping His promises. No matter how successful or turbulent 2016 has been for you, I’m praying that you’d have time to experience the Father’s love once again this Christmas.

So, in a dizzy month of parties and shopping, of dark nights and bright lights, here’s to carving out precious space to worship; taking time each day to remember the hope at the heart of the season. Let’s be moved afresh by the magnitude of Jesus coming down to earth to save us.

I want to leave you with The Message version of Isaiah 9:2-7. I feel like it sparkles with joy and warmth, and best of all – it’s describing the hope that is FOREVER ours!

The people who walked in darkness, have seen a great light.
For those who lived in a land of deep shadows – light! Sunbursts of light!
You repopulated the nation, You expanded its joy.
Oh, they’re so glad in your presence! Festival joy!
The joy of a great celebration,
Sharing rich gifts and warm greetings.
For a child has been born – for us! The gift of a son – for us!
Isaiah 2:9-7 (MSG)

Christmas brings the electricity of joy that runs along the grid of all reality. (John Piper)

Let’s expand our joy this season. Let’s remember the Love that came down that first Christmas and will never leave us. Fill your Christmas season with rich scripture, and keep your eyes on hope. Introducing: Love Came Down...
